Amber,
Congratulations! One of the things you'll need to become familiar w
ith are your local and State regulations/codes, etc.
If the HAZMAT course you are taking in May is at the Center for Domestic Pr
eparedness in Anniston, AL, you should be in for a great experience.&nb
sp; You might also consider the EHTER course there (on environmental heal
th aspects of disasters). I took it in January and it was really ex
cellent. I'll be going back in April for another course on Agroterr
orism. I think they will give the last one of these in June 2011,
so if you're interested, I'd check immediately with your State DHS Coord
inator.
If you'll be in North East Texas, I'd also suggest you make contac
t with the good folks at the North Texas Poison Center (your regiona
l Poison Center in Dallas -- 800 number is inside the cover of any&n
bsp;area phone book).
I second the comment about joining NEHA (National Environmental Health Asso
ciation). I was a member for many years and they have some excellen
t programs, etc.
Best wishes and good luck.
