OK... not knowing a thing about pipeline pigging, you got my curiosity up. I had to do a quick look-see.
(1) Would these folks be able to advise you better....?

(2) Couldn't bad things happen to the integrity of a pipeline whether it was used or not?
(3) If you were to NOT pig the line every 5 yrs (and maintain documentation) and something bad happened, what would be the result - monetary, goodwill, future business?)

traps are required to be pigged at least every 5 years.
1. Is this interval normal? Not too frequent?
2. What of pipelines that were pigged but, for some unplanned
reason, were not used for about 1 or 2 years? How do you address the
compliance issues of 5-yr pigging? Do you just pig after 5 because the
regs say so? Or do you wait until the pipeline has been used for 5
years?
Remember - safety statistics are more than mere numbers. These are real
people we are talking about.
